On Saturday, June 30th, from 10 am to 12 pm there will be a signing ceremony of the Kawai Nui Marsh bill that transfers management authorities in and around Kawai Nui Marsh. There will also be an acknowledgement of the agreement between the State and the City & County over resource management and ownership issues of Kawai Nui Marsh.

You are invited to attend at Kawai Nui Neighborhood Park (aka Kaha Park) at the foot of Kaha Street in Kailua. The Governor, Mayor and other elected representatives who have worked to see this transfer and agreement finally take effect will be there. Organizations such as Ahahui Malama i ka Lokahi, Kawai Nui Heritage Foundation, Hawaii Audubon Society, Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle have long sought this important milestone in the restoration of this Internationally Significant Wetland and a National Cultural and Historic District.

Kumu Hula Mapuana De Silva, Halau Mohala Ilima and Walt Keale will participate in the event. Educational displays will show what is and will be done by various groups in furthering the restoration of Kawai Nui Marsh.

See you there on the 30th! It’s time to take a big step forward together.
